Fundraiser Ideas

Here are some great ways to help you raise money for the American Cancer Society. Make sure you ask your friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers etc. for donations. And remember, share with them your reason for participating in Relay for Life.

- Sell baked goods
- Sell luminaries at home (especially if you aren't from Northfield) to family, friends and community members. Don't forget professors, teachers and co-workers
- Shovel sidewalks, spring yard cleanup, run errands etc.
- Hold a raffle
- Date auction with friends
- Sell grilled cheese, pancakes etc.
- Knock on doors and ask for donations
- Car Wash

Remember, every cent raised counts!

**ALL Donations go to the American Cancer Society and are tax deductible**

Cancer Survivors

If you, or someone you know is a cancer survivor (family member, friend, neighbor etc.) and is interested in participating in this year's Relay, please let Eric Torgerson (torgerse@stolaf.edu) or Janne Dale (dalej@stolaf.edu) know. Survivors don't have to be from Northfield. Survivors are honored during the opening ceremony, followed by a reception for them and their families.

Luminaria

For many people who attend Relay For Life®, one of the most moving parts of the event is the Ceremony of Hope. As the light dims over campsites and team members complete laps, the night is brightened by the glow of lighted bags called luminaria, each of which has a special meaning. Some luminaria celebrate the survivorship of people who have battled cancer and lived to tell the tale. Many commemorate the lives of those who have been lost to this disease. All represent a person who has been profoundly affected by cancer and the family and friends who continue to be touched by that experience.

Team members are encouraged to use the sale of Luminaria as a way to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Any money earned through the sales of Luminaria will go towards your total fundraising goal. Luminaria are sold for $10.

Bags are decorated "In Honor of" cancer survivors and "In Memory of" someone who was lost to cancer. The decoration is usually done by the individual who purchases the bag, or the person who they purchase the bag from. If necessary, we can decorate some bags for you, however we tend to minimize doing this due to the other tasks that are needed to be done by the committee. Also, feel free to personalize the bags even more with quotes, drawings, photos etc.

If you have any questions regarding Luminaria, or to receive bags please email: Leslie Abell at abell@stolaf.edu
or leave a comment and we'll get back to you as quickly as possible.

Please light a candle in honor of or in memory of a friend or loved one who has had cancer. Your contribution will help save lives, give hope, and empower people through the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission.

Team Registration

Anyone who is interested in participating in this year's Relay should register online TODAY! You can register online here:

http://events.cancer.org/rflnorthfield

Things to note:

Theme: SPOTLIGHT ON A CURE - pick a movie for you to represent as you relay. You can decorate your campsite and team members accordingly.

FEE: $10 fee per person helps cover the cost of the actual event
FUNDRAISING: Team members are encouraged to raise an additional $100 for the American Cancer Society. For fundraising ideas, see Fundraising post.
ALL-NIGHT EVENT: Bring tents, sleeping bags, blankets etc. to Relay. Campsites can be setup on the football practice fields. We know it may get cold, and that it is hard to keep people up and walking all night, but just remember those who we relaying for and their long, hard battle against cancer. We encourage team members to rotate who is on the track so that everyone gets a chance to rest and sleep a little.
